I did not know of the Atacama Humanoid. Who first discovered it, and under what circumstances?

last night my husband and i watched a special on the history channel about the knights templar.

about two weeks before i showed my husband the 607/587 blunder.

first off, he didn't even know that 607 was relevant to jw teachings.

The best way to keep people in a cult is to make sure they don't really understand what they are espousing. Scientology, Wahabi Islam, and UFO cults are other good examples. An old drunk once said, "religion is a snare and a racket."

Throughout the history of the Watchtower there have been "secret doctrines" in the sense that there have been some teachings that were seldom discussed but which were firmly inside the Watchtower doctrinal camp. One of these is that the 144,000 are part of the ransom. Another is the 7,000 year long creative day, which Russell picked up in his early reading - that notion has only the barest scriptural support and can be shown to pre-date Christianity itself.

The Watchtower no longer has Russell, Rutherford or Franz to vigorously defend their "present truth." They are led by a comittee of ignoramuses today, a doctrinal fuster-cluck.

My experience today

discussion with wife today led to her questioning whether i believe or not.

i told her that i just can't roll over and accept everything new thing they say just like that.

we were, of course, talking about the "new light".

LQ, I fear for your happiness.

You say, " my wife is very fragile emotionally..." Let me rhetorically ask (in other words, don't answer this) if her condition is REALLY so delicate and has been confirmed by psychiatrists and/or neurologists to be the result of some organic deficiency OR if this "fragility" is simply a role she plays to manipulate you. If she appears to be an oh-so-delicate-shrinking-violet then YOU will have to do things for her and not complain, for she has become your burden to bear.

If she does have some real organic deficiencies, you have my sympathy but I still wonder if coddling her is going to make her stronger.

Some asshole elder will pronounce you a "spiritual threat" and you will be wondering what the hell just happened.

I hope for your sake you are well and strong; you may soon be tested.

so my husband's brother called him this morning.

i will call his brother earl (fake name :) so earl calls him out of the blue, hubby hasn't talked to him in a few months.

earl was never baptized and left jw's in his later teens and the family has also thought he was a low life and the black sheep of the family.

You are entitled your your opinion, PA, and you are entitled to bonus slack because you are relatively new.

One thing I have noticed in my long study of Watchtowerism is that far too often good men said nothing and thereby empowered evil. There were some people, for example, who objected to Russell's taking the title "Pastor." If you play by the Bible rulebook, their objection was sound. But most said nothing, so the "Pastor's" organization grew. Russell was constantly - yes, CONSTANTLY - changing his doctrines when they were proved inaccurate or inconvenient. Most quietly went along with this - it was "new light." After Russell's death a power-hungry sociopath conspired with a few lackies to take over Russell's printing business. LOTS of Bible Students objected and left, but too many didn't care enough to challenge the organization that had given them a title and reverence.

I prefer not to make that mistake. It is not bad form to call a thing what it is, it is honesty. That's what I try to bring to the party.

Furthermore Farkel does not seek power - he has NEVER created an organization of Apostates and installed himself as leader of that organization. He has followed the philosophy of "received freely, given freely" and has never suggested that his admirers should send him money. Farkel is a class act and some others - let the reader use discernment - are not.

Yes indeed it WAS lame, but it made Jah's heart glad. I couldn't have imagined "spiritual" and "good times" being used in a sentence together without the word "NOT".
